The suika in Scratch

Hey, did you know? The original “Watermelon Game” was actually a mini-game that came with a projector device. So, the developer wasn’t a game company, but a projector company. Let’s play and thank Aladdin X Co., the company that sells projectors and other devices.
And now, it’s reached over 1 million3 million 6 million downloads! You never know what will go viral, right? HIKAKIN also recently did a playthrough of the Watermelon Game. (Congrats on your marriage, HIKAKIN!)
I love it too. Just the other day, I finally scored 2600 points. Apparently, some people can reach over 3000, even surpassing 7000 points, so I still need to improve.
There are so many Watermelon Games, so I’ve categorized (organized) them a bit:
- “Watermelon Game” – Games that replicate the original Watermelon Game
- “Customized Watermelon Game” – Games that change the mechanics of the original and make them humorous
- “Seasonal Watermelon Game” – Games with seasonal graphics as the main change
- “Watermelon Game Collaborations” – Games that use the Watermelon Game characters in other genres (like action games)
- “How to Make a Watermelon Game” – Projects that could be helpful for making your own Watermelon Game

A masterpiece of Scratch programming with essentially just one sprite... The smoothness of movement, the physics calculations for bouncing, the evolution animations... every aspect represents the pinnacle of quality... This is absolutely mind-blowing.
Personally, I was amazed by how they implemented those lovely floating animations for the score and "next" displays - such attention to detail! As they say, the divine is truly found in the details.

Summary of the author's notes: Welcome to "Watermelon Game!" where you can unlock 10,000 points! It's free, which is a big advantage. Remember, the game is not unchanged. Rankings reset every Monday at 9 AM. In the game, your scores remain the same as the original, and we've made it lighter for smoother play. We hope you enjoy it! Thanks to @SMEcreater for creating this game. We've fixed the bounce during falls and are looking into a bug fix for jumping. Play, score, and see your name in the rankings!

The program was built from scratch. This is the first watermelon game ever made in Scratch.
Click to drop fruit. When fruits of the same type collide, they merge into a bigger fruit. If a fruit falls out of the box, the game ends. The world record updates when the game is over.
The creator saw the watermelon game on YouTube and wanted to play it for free, so they made their own version. It uses only one sprite. A bug makes the game easier.
Highest score: 2994.

The most remarkable aspect of this Scratch project is how the physics engine is implemented! The creator built their own physics engine that supports complex features like rotation and merging. What's particularly noteworthy is the "physics" procedure, which enhances simulation stability by using substeps - tiny, frequent updates.
For fruit collision detection, it calculates the distance between circles, merging fruits of the same type when they touch. This creates that "satisfying" fusion effect.
The visual feedback is also brilliantly crafted, like the "poof" effect when fruits combine. The perfect balance between physics calculations and visual presentation might just be the secret behind this game's addictiveness!

Play the popular Watermelon Game with online multiplayer!
You must be a Scratcher to play online.
Click, drop, and combine fruits to grow bigger ones. Be careful not to overfill the container!
Try connecting two watermelons... what happens next?
Players and fruit drops are synced, but full fruit syncing isn’t possible due to cloud lag.
Secret mode: Click the screen and type "dog."

This is a 1v1 online watermelon battle game. The match lasts for 900 seconds, and the winner is decided by the score at the end. If the game ends early, the current score will count. Be sure to press the red button next to the green flag to start. If fruits disappear suddenly, the match has successfully begun. Feel free to remix, but change the cloud variable names to avoid errors.

This Scratch project uses a clever trick of adding 100,000 to player scores to align digits before concatenating variables! What's particularly impressive is how it packs 5 pieces of data into a single cloud variable. It treats each "ranking" item as a number while concatenating and storing them as strings. There's also a mechanism that checks if a player's score beats the current rankings and inserts it at the appropriate position. This creates an excellent data management approach that conserves cloud variables while handling multiple data points!

Online Battle Watermelon Game
This is a watermelon game where you compete online. Matches last 900 seconds, during which you vie for the highest score. If you get a game over before the 900 seconds are up, your score at that point will be recorded. Before starting a match, it's best to press the red octagonal button. The most remarkable thing about this Scratch project is that it achieves 3D rendering in Scratch's purely 2D environment! It uses the "painter's algorithm" - drawing objects from farthest to nearest from the camera - to create depth perception. It even implements mouse-controlled camera rotation and physics calculations, processing all the 3D coordinates (x,y,z), velocity vectors, and rotation matrix math right within Scratch. The collision detection and 3D projection are particularly complex, but the clever part is how it uses the pen tool to draw lines and spheres, scaling their size based on Z-coordinates to create that convincing sense of depth!

The Watermelon Game may seem simple, but it involves complex logic where spheres fall due to gravity, collide with other spheres, bounce, and evolve! Even when looking at the game projects, reading the source code can be quite challenging, so if you want to master every aspect of the Watermelon Game, check out how to make it! You’ll probably come up with ideas for interesting remixes too!
